Shen practice

Because of the whole RP thing with , I figured I'd better start learning how to draw this guy. How is it that you're the super Shen fangirl, and yet I'm the one who's always playing him?

Well, I actually went to see this movie in 3D yesterday, and HOLY HELL IT WAS AWESOME. You can't properly appreciate the animation of Kung Fu Panda 2 unless you watch it in 3D. Seriously.

I drew these while watching a bootleg internet copy of the film, so they were all drawn from reference. (Reference here equals pressing "pause" and drawing him.) And give Dreamworks a lot of credit: Lord Shen is one friggin complex character. Not complex in personality; he's more developed in the RP and in Jordan's fic than he is in the actual movie. No, he's complex to ANIMATE. His design is optimized to pull the maximum possible amount of expression out of him, and he has the coolest kung fu moves out of anyone in the franchise. And I read somewhere that he was such a pain to animate that it was like animating six characters at once.

So clearly, I need to keep practicing.
